Speakout Advanced p 86. School Answering Machine. Extra Listening

This is the message that the staff at Maroochydore High School, Queensland, Australia, voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school.
This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes.

  1. I like very much this message. Unfortunetly, nowdays many parents act like what is described in the message. From my point of view it is an orginal way to complain against this behaviour.

  2. Anybody, any parents I mean, would recognise this, but this shows a reality present at school, altough when you listen the message it seems a joke. However, as a mother, I desagree with the thought that students, parents and teachers are all in this way. Too complicate to explain in my limitated English but I see everyday a different, and more optimistic, education future!

  3. Great message. It shows the real situation of most schools in many countries.
Not only teachers must be fair, also parents and their children.
To success in life it is necessary to make efforts and forget the ideat that we can act unwilling while we study because we'll have everything done in life.
Nice way to complain, with no fear.
