Overrule somebody/something: to change a decision or reject an idea from a position of greater power. Denegar, invalidar, anular. E.g. to overrule a decision/an objection. The verdict was overruled by the Supreme Court.
Uphold something: 1. to support something that you think is right and make sure that it continues to exist. mantener, sostener, confirmar, hacer cumplir. E.g. We have a duty to uphold the law. The regime has been criticized for failing to uphold human rights. 2. (especially of a court of law) to agree that a previous decision was correct or that a request is reasonable. E.g. to uphold a conviction/an appeal/a complaint.
