crowning used to describe something that makes something complete or perfect, or is the best feature of something.

E.g.

 The hotel’s crowning glory was a stunning roof garden.  

his crowning achievement

 

overstatement: a statement that you say in a way that makes it seem more important than it really is; the act of saying something in this way.  Exaggeration.

E.g.

It is not an overstatement to say a crisis is imminent.

 

defy the odds to accomplish something that most would deem impossible. 

E.g. 

a 16-week premature baby who defied the odds and survived

She defied the odds to beat the clear favourite.
