POINT (Fixed phrase)

I was on the point of leaving the school when I saw George.

2- “I'm sorry I forgot to email you the details earlier,” said the tour operator.

FOR (Indirect speech; verb + preposition + gerund in negative)

The tour operator apologised for not emailing / having emailed him/her the details earlier.

3- I don't think the advice your accountant gave you is very good.

SHOULD (Modal verb in the past)

Your accountant should have given you better advice.

4- I felt nervous, so I went into the interview in a bad frame of mind.

FEELING (Present participle clause to express cause)

Feeling nervous, I went into the interview in a bad frame of mind.

5- I saw the postman for a minute as he passed my window.

SIGHT (Fixed phrase)

I caught sight of the postman as he passed my window.

6-It's possible she was held up in traffic.

COULD (Modal verb in the past)

She could have been held up in traffic.

ONLY (Regret)

If only we'd (had) known about the spare key, we wouldn't have called the police.

SINCE (Tense shift)

It has been some years since I started smoking. / It is some years since I started smoking.

TIME (Conditional clause type 3 with the fixed phrase to be on time)

If Claire had arrived on time, Declan would not have been angry.

PROBABLY (Ways of expressing the future)

The band probably will not / will probably not do another tour this year.

SHOULD (Passive)

The visitor should be met by one of us at the airport.

LIKE (introductory it)

The singer doesn't like it when / if people ask for his autograph in the street.

13- According to the gossip, the actress will be getting married soon.

RUMOURED (Reporting verb in passive)

The actress is rumoured to be getting married soon.

14- Grace knows a lot about Web design, even though she has never studied it.

DESPITE (construction with despite)

Despite never having studied it, Grace knows a lot about Web design.
